On a misty day that added a special charm to the landscape, we had the pleasure of welcoming Zekun Shuai, Senior Editor at James Suckling, to our estate and winery in Totihue, nestled in the heart of Chile’s Cachapoal Valley.

Our Director of Winemaking and Viticulture, Alejandro Wedeles, hosted the visit, which began with a tour of our vineyards, highlighting the presence of slate soils—a rare formation in this area that imparts distinctive and unique character to our Cabernet Sauvignon. This special soil, along with a permanent soil pit showcasing the layers of our terrain, illustrates the exceptional conditions this terroir offers for cultivating red varieties.

The visit concluded with a tasting of wines from both Santa Carolina and Viña Casablanca, including a vertical tasting of our iconic Reserva de Familia. A truly memorable moment was the uncorking of a historic 1959 vintage, which still retains remarkable freshness and fruit character.

Despite the fog, it was a warm and engaging day, filled with enriching conversations, technical curiosity, and shared passion for wine.
