Santa Carolina Herencia Carmenère 2020: Best Chilean Wine at the 2024 Decanter World Wine Awards
Recognized among the Top 50 Wines Worldwide with the prestigious “Best in Show” distinction
At the 2024 edition of the Decanter World Wine Awards, the world’s largest and most respected wine competition, Santa Carolina Herencia Carmenère 2020 was named the top-performing Chilean wine, earning an outstanding 97 points and the coveted Best in Show accolade, placing it among the Top 50 wines globally.
More than 18,000 wines from around the world were assessed by an esteemed panel of 243 experts, including 20 Master Sommeliers and 61 Masters of Wine from 33 countries.
This year marked Chile’s best historical performance at the competition, with a total of 23 Gold Medals, representing a 77% increase from the previous edition. Among them, Herencia Carmenère 2020 stood out for its remarkable character and quality, being praised as “an exceptional Carmenère.”
Crafted from some of Chile’s finest terroirs for the variety, including Peumo and Los Lingues, this flagship wine reflects Viña Santa Carolina’s dedication to excellence and ongoing innovation. Judges described Herencia as a wine “bursting with lively, spicy aromas over a backdrop of red fruits. On the palate, it is vibrant and fresh, with unusual subtlety and complexity, rounded out by soft, seductive tannins that lend a delicious charm to the finish.”
This recognition further cements Santa Carolina’s position as a benchmark in premium Chilean winemaking, with global reach and acclaim.
